Version 3.0.1304 of Rufus is released Congratulations, Rufus! Your newest update includes a number of new features, including the ability to create bootable ISO images with no pre-existing partition on your target device. This new feature provides users with the opportunity to encrypt, perform a full disk backup or restore them in a few clicks straight from a USB drive or external hard disk. Please keep in mind that this release also introduces an issue where backups will not work correctly if you use an active partition backup type for your backup drive and specify it as the target device itself. Rufus will now provide the option of adding any number of new devices you may have plugged in to your computer at startup, so you can keep up to date with which devices you have connected without the need to run Rufus on every boot. For permanent device persistence, Rufus now allows users to select not just one additional USB device, but any number of new devices that they wish to be automatically added. It is currently not possible to remove specified devices or choose not to add new ones, but this functionality will be added soon. For those wishing to make use of this option for permanent device persistence, an updated version of the rufus-utility has been released as well. With the release of Rufus 3.0.1304, we also added the ability to create bootable ISOs containing no file system, which can be used for a variety of purposes such as flashing firmware on a device or flashing a new operating system. In order to do this, the ISO itself must use the nofiles file system type or be encrypted. The ISO may then be written to a USB drive and booted from that drive, after which the device will boot from the ISO and run whatever is on it. For those who wish to make use of this feature, an updated version of the rufus-utility has been released as well. Rufus 3. 0.1304 also includes a number of minor bugs being fixed, several of which have been introduced over the past few releases. A new feature has also been added to provide users with feedback, allowing them to know if they are connected to the correct target device on boot. Rufus 3.0.1304 is currently being pushed out on rufus-clients as we speak, but if you have not received it yet you can download it manually from our website or check for updates from within Rufus itself by selecting Help->Check for update.
